Ristorante di Piano is in a beautiful building whose name has close connections with Erkner - Bechsteins, the beautiful building by the roundabout in Erkner.
The Bechstein family lived in a villa in Erkner's Friedrichstrasse, which is now the old part of the town hall. Bechstein has a musical ring to it. Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Bechstein was born in the Residenzstadt (former town with a princely court) of Gotha on 1 June 1826. On October 1, 1853, at the age of 27, Carl Bechstein took over the management of the Perau company in Berlin. This day is now considered the foundation date of the C. Bechstein pianoforte factory.
Carl Bechstein encountered Erkner during the summer months. He is said to have owned a property in Erkner from around 1874. A travel guide from 1884 mentions a proud villa with magnificent gardens. A newspaper article from 1889 talked about the demolished villa of the world-famous pianoforte manufacturer Carl Bechstein being rebuilt. Another prominent house, namely that of Gerhart Hauptmann, is located in the direct vicinity of the new Bechstein, which has housed an Italian restaurant since March 2018.
In nice weather, you can enjoy an ice-cream sundae or two on the large terrace.
