Altfriedland is a district of the municipality of Neuhardenberg in the district of Märkisch-Oderland. The village is idyllically situated on the edge of the Märkische Schweiz nature park between the Kietzer See lake and the Klostersee lake, the latter with a swimming area.
The Klosterschänke pub, which was built as part of the restoration and safeguarding of the monastery ruins, offers a wonderful view over the Klostersee and is just a 5-minute walk away.
The ‘Langes Haus Altfriedland’ association is known throughout the region for its themed hiking programme, a source of new knowledge about plants, mushrooms and birds for nature lovers. The association's latest achievement can be admired next to the herb garden behind the Long House: a baking oven with a covered seating area is ideal for social gatherings with culinary accompaniment. In the Long House you can experience an interesting exhibition including the use of digital media.
Altfriedland and its lakes have been recognised as an international bird sanctuary. The highlight for visitors are the hikes to the goose resting place in autumn, a spectacular natural spectacle that will stay in your memory for a long time.
Thanks to its traffic-calmed location - Altfriedland is a cul-de-sac village - and surrounded by greenery, the small village offers a high quality of life. The feared rural exodus has not materialised here; young families interested in community village life have settled here, making the village a liveable and lovable place that welcomes visitors and lets them take part in the wide range of activities on offer.
