One of Gubin’s most impressive buildings is the town’s main church. This late-Gothic town church was first documented in 1294. From 1508 to 1557 the Late Gothic building gained its final exterior appearance. The church burnt down at the end of the February 1945. Since then it has been a ruin as well as a memorial to war and destruction in the historic centre of Gubin. A foundation from Gubin and a friends’ association from Guben are working hard to rebuild the church as a German-Polish meeting centre in order to promote and strengthen intercultural relationships. Work began in 2006 and is already bearing fruit.  The cowl was replaced on the church tower, giving it back its original appearance. The tower has been repaired and in the summer months now offers an incomparable view of Guben and Gubin to anyone willing to take the effort to climb it.
