It has been demonstrated that the Henkerhaus was home to Bernau’s executioner from the 16th to the 19th century. Today it houses a department of the local history museum. The rooms in the house are arranged to look just as they did after the reconstruction and extension of the building in the 19thcentury.
The executioner’s tools can be seen, including a 16th-century executioner’s sword. On the ground floor there is a permanent exhibition on Bernau’s encounter with the Hussites in the year 1432, as well as a room used for alternating special exhibitions.
