Since 1977, the Brecht-Weigel house in Buckow (Märkische Schweiz) has been a memorial to Bertolt Brecht and Helene Weigel. The artistic couple spent its summers in the town from 1952 onwards.
After Brecht had died in 1956, Helene Weigel continued to invite many guests and to use the estate as a holiday home alongside her apartment in Berlin until her death in 1971.
The summer house of Bertolt Brecht and Helene Weigel allows for an insight into their life together and into the couple’s work. Original furniture, stage design models, wagons and costumes from Brecht’s play ‘Mother Courage and Her Children’ illustrate the cooperation of the playwright and poet and the actress.
