The storks’ tower in Rathsdorf/Altgaul is about 150 years old and an unparalleled monument of the brick-making industry. It is the last one of the formerly very common brick kilns of the Mark region. A pair of storks has had its nest on top of the tower for as long as anyone can remember. The NABU (German environmental organisation) and the Michael Otto Foundation refurbished the storks’ tower in the early 1990, and a museum dedicated to the White Stork was set up in the historic building.
