The dove is after a window at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the rays symbolise the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, the idea was by Provost Müller (made by the Hilmer company from Werder). After extensive renovations to the outer skin of the church from 2002 to 2004, the newly designed entrance area was completed in August 2004. The interior of the church was also repainted that year. The window over the tabernacle was rediscovered and redesigned in 2004.
From the end of the 19th century, there were lots of Catholic seasonal workers and helpers in the fruit plantations and brickworks around Werder (Havel) and so a Catholic community was formed. Since 2003, the Catholic Church of St Peter and St Paul has been part of the Potsdam parish.
