The Catholic St. Nicholas’ Church, a three-aisle brick basilica, was first mentioned in a document dating back to 1173. Up to 1712, the church served different purposes, including a military hospital, prisoner-of-war camp and as family vaults.
The first extensive reconstruction of the church since the 15th century began in 1901. The burial chambers were removed and the Romantic arched windows were replaced.
As a place of prayer and memorial to the victims of unjust violence, St. Nicholas’ Church now regularly celebrates church services, ecumenical gatherings, peace prayers and various other ecclesiastical purposes.
