Visitors to the present municipal parish church in Lebus will notice the unusual proportions of its church hall and tower. There is a reason for this: In World War II, the church was damaged so badly that only the western part was rebuilt as an emergency church. The decaying walls of the former transept and chancel were covered in 2005 to protect them. In addition to the winter church, there is nowadays also an outdoor area that resembles a cloister and is framed by historic walls. It is used as a venue for events.
The first foundation stones of the church at the former bishop’s seat Lebus date back to medieval times. Excavation work around the church has produced evidence of a late Slavic or early German graveyard from 1258, and there is certain evidence from the year 1355. The first protestant synod was held at the bishop’s castle in Lebus in 1556. When the church was completely destroyed in a town fire in 1801, it was rebuilt as the classicist plastered structure whose layout remains visible to the present day.

The church is usually open during the day in summer, visitors can collect a key from the parish office on Schulstrasse. 6.
