Dorfschmiede Blankenfelde, old blacksmith's shop

Blankenfelde village forge is right on the village green, not far from the village church. After the church, it is probably the second oldest building there. It is presumed that the forge was built around 1540. Over the course of the centuries, numerous additions were made to the building and it was modernised throughout. The forge was in operation up until the 1960s. The building then fell to ruin, even though it was already a protected monument. A work group fought against calls for it to be demolished and set about restoring it in the 1980s. In 1995, the forge was fully rebuilt and renovated true to the original with the help of state funding. Since summer 2019, has been in operation again according to its original purpose. The blacksmith Werner Mohrmann-Dressel has his studio at the forge and uses old and new techniques to create contemporary objects and sculptures as well as utensils and much more. 
The forge is usually open to visitors on Tuesday and Friday from about 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on the first Saturday of the month from about 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. These times may change to please inquire beforehand. Blacksmithing workshops can be booked on request.
