The Protestant village church of Schönefeld is a late Romanesque fieldstone church from the middle of the 13th century. Several alterations led to its current appearance. The interior is rather plain. The walls are plastered. The interior furnishings, including the altar and baptismal font, are in a modern style. There is a chapel on the church grounds with the grave of the former landowner Karl Wrede and his wife.
Not only the church but also the village center has undergone major changes. The modern traffic infrastructure is a dividing element in the middle of the original village. But the church still stands in its place in the center of Schönefeld. For this very reason, the parish sees itself as a spiritual center for all Schönefeld residents and people from the surrounding area. The church is a lively center for Sunday services, regular events and festivals such as the summer festival and the Schönefeld Festival of Lights. A new organ was installed in the village church a few years ago.
