The field stone church in Bestensee is an impressive example of medieval village churches. The building was probably constructed at the end of the 14th century. In 1883 and 1884, the parish extended the building, adding the tower on the west side and a porch on the south side. The structure consists of roughly hewn field stones; only the west wall of the tower is built using red masonry bricks, which is unusual for the region.
The unpretentious, roughly plastered interior of the church contains a simple altar; the ornamental panel behind originally included a large number of carved figures, but these are now missing. The last traces went to the Zossen District Museum at the end of the Second World War. The current panel dates from the 17th or 18th century. The wall paintings on the south wall, which probably date from the early 15th century, deserve particular attention.

The church is part of the “Open Churches” initiative. The church is open on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Easter to the end of October.
