The Schinkel Church in Neuhardenberg is an architectural masterpiece that was built in 1809 according to plans by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Originally built as part of the village of Quilitz, the church was given its current name by King Friedrich Wilhelm III after the village was donated to State Chancellor Carl August von Hardenberg and was redesigned by Schinkel between 1815 and 1817.
A highlight of the church is the starry sky, inspired by Schinkel's stage design for Mozart's “Magic Flute”. The interior is complemented by the altarpieces of the four evangelists, which were created by Potsdam artist Josef Bertini in 1822. A special historical feature is the heart of Carl August von Hardenberg, which is kept in the chancel at his request. Thanks to extensive restoration work, the church has been restored to its original splendor.
Guided tours and visits are available on request, also for groups, holders of star sponsorships or those interested in the KPM star bowl.
