Huge masses of ice, rising several hundred metres over Buckow and the subsequent melting waters were what gave the Märkische Schweiz its current shape: high ridges and plateaus, lakes, valleys and gorges as well as sandy areas and dunes.
The glacial origins of the nature park and the shaping force of the ice which can be traced due to the arch-like grouping of the boulders – these are the specific themes highlighted at the Ice Age Garden in Buckow. Here, large and small boulders can be seen which reached the Märkische Schweiz during the last ice age about 12,000 years ago: Rapakivi granite from the Aland Islands, Baltic Sea porphyry and Jotnian sandstone from central Sweden can all be admired here.
The rock garden is located near the Brecht-Weigel House on the promenade of Lake Buckowsee.
The Ice Age Garden is freely accessible at all times.
