Bomsdorf Park

If you love mystical, fairytale settings, you must definitely visit Bomsdorf manor park. Its priceless, centuries-old population of oak, copper beech, silver poplar and ash along with numerous ponds give the park the atmosphere of a small enchanted forest. A visit to the manor park is a particularly fascinating experience for youngsters as they can admire the impressive trees with gnarled branches and wide trunks.

Bomsdorf was first mentioned in 1310. It was the ancestral seat of the Knights of Bomsdorf and did not belong to Neuzelle Monastery. The manor house was built in 1731 and was also referred to as a “Schloss” (palace), though the name did not reflect its character. In 1999 it was extensively renovated. The fieldstone farm buildings were built around 1700. In the last few years these have also been lovingly renovated so as to preserve a piece of history. The idyllically laid out estate park is under landscape protection and is directly adjacent to the manor house. The park blends in very harmoniously with the hills of the surrounding countryside. Winding paths lead past ponds to the grave of the last owners of the village.

A walk here is a great way to experience nature, no matter the season. In spring, the tender green of the newly blossoming flowers and trees overcomes the grey of winter. In summer, gnarled old trees offer plenty of shade from the hot sun, giving off a sense of cool serenity. Meanwhile in autumn the magnificent colours of the leaves stretch out before the visitor’s eyes in all conceivable nuances. Even in winter, when the park’s landscape is covered white, the snow glitters like sparkling crystals in the bright sunshine, transforming the trees into icy giants.
