Tourist attractions Observation towers

Of the 302 border towers around West Berlin, four are still exisiting nowadays. One of them belongs to the "Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald (SDW)" and is located on the former German-German border between Berlin-Frohnau and the Hohen Neuendorf district of Bergfelde.
The tower, which is protected as an architectural monument, has a height of 8.50 m and a base area of about 16 m². The open space of about 3,800 m² around the tower is ecologically managed and serves as an outdoor classroom today.
Since 1990, the "Naturschutzturm" has been open to daycare centers, schools and other educational institutions that want to learn more about nature and history.
In addition, interested groups can take advantage of guided tours of the tower and the grounds, the nearby Treugraben landscape conservation area, the Herthamoor, the heath or Lake Hubertus.
It can be reached from Hohen Neuendorf via Bundesstraße 96 and Parkstraße, and from Bergfelde via Glienicker Straße (about a five-minute walk in each case). In many city maps it is registered as "former border tower Dt. Waldjugend".
