The Wierichwiesen (meadows) are a lowland moorland that drains into the Scharmützelsee. They have been used by Saarow farmers for fodder production for a long time. Today, the Demeter farm Marienhöhe and a horse transport company use the areas for hay production. This results in long resting periods, so many birds feel comfortable there. On the edges there are old trees and a pond. In the past, the healing moor was extracted from this pond. Today there is a peat extraction area on the eastern side of the meadow. The healing moor is used in the SaarowTherme, is re-integrated and can be reused after a rest period. You can walk around the Wierichwiesen on the Schmeling hiking trail. This path starts at the lively lakeside promenade and leads past the church and beautiful old villas, such as the Scharwenkahaus, then you reach the Wierichwiesen and have a beautiful panoramic view. A bird song concert accompanies the hikers. Depending on the season, wild geese, cranes, swallows and a flock of starlings can be observed. Storks are also often seen in summer. A polyphonic bird concert sounds from the old trees. Benches invite you to observe.
