Bird watching

The Ziltendorfer lowland – accessible nature adventures for everyone! You’re in an apparently endless plain, with little streams and ditches running through along the many meadows and fields. Many communities in the municipality of Brieskow-Finkenheerd and the River Oder surround this extensive natural space, which is only interrupted by a few houses and small settlements. Fabulous sunrises or misty dawns make the landscape seem almost mystical. With its wealth of flora and fauna, it is a paradise for nature lovers.

You can admire the lively meadows and listen to the flapping of the storks or the cries of the sheep, goats and cows. Meetings with foxes, hares, deer, beavers, raccoons and more are quite common. Ornithologists will be captivated by the many rare species of birds here. Hikers, inline skaters and cyclists of all ages will find this the ideal region for an accessible work-out.

The stations in Brieskow-Finkenheerd, Wiesenau and Ziltendorf make getting here easy.

Vogelsang
The village of Vogelsang is located at the southern end of the Ziltendorf lowlands. Here you will find a Soviet cemetery of honor, which bears witness to the fighting at the beginning of 1945. The remains of a makeshift dyke from the Oder flood in 1997 can also be visited. Close to the village are the ruins of a power station that never went into operation, which was completed shortly before the end of the war in 1945 and is now home to many animal species
